Solar Savings through Home Solar Power

Go solar today and start saving tomorrow.

By generating your own electricity with a home solar system, you not only lower your electricity bill today, but you also avoid rapidly accelerating utility costs, saving big money over time. When you use solar energy to power your home, you will see your monthly electrical bill get smaller – immediately! By installing a Sungevity home solar system, you become your own power provider and lock in your electricity costs.

Better yet, your savings actually increase over time as grid electricity rates rise. In Arizona, electricity costs 17% more today than it did in 2002. Electricity prices in California are way above the national average. If you’re like most California residents, your household’s electric bill has doubled in the past 10 years. No matter where you live, a home solar system protects you from future electricity rate hikes.

Sungevity offers several paths to savings.

When you review your Sungevity Solar iQuote, you will see your financing options and electric bill savings. Utilities charge different rates based on what time of day it is or how much electricity you've already consumed in a given month. As part of Sungevity's commitment to saving you money, we'll figure out how much "expensive" energy you use, and design a solar system to offset that amount - we'll make your home a hybrid - getting some of your electricity from solar and some, at a cut-rate, from your utility.

One of the easiest ways to begin reaping the financial benefits of solar energy is with the Sungevity Solar Lease. Not only can you power your home with clean, renewable energy, but you'll save money from day 1 with $0 down and low monthly payments over ten years.

If you decide that you’d like to own your Sungevity home solar system, your Solar Sales Consultant can suggest personal financing options for you. You’ll be happy to know that you’ll begin to get a return on your investment after the first 8-14 years, depending on the size of your system and how much electricity your household uses.

Current incentives lower the cost of solar by 40% or more!

The new federal tax credit for residential solar reduces your cost by 30%. The California Solar Initiative (CSI) rebate saves you an additional 10% to 20% depending on which utility provides you with power. Added together, in California, around 40% to 50% of the cost of a solar installation is covered by federal and state solar incentives. It's even better in Arizona, where the combination of federal and utility-sponsored incentives can cover as much as 85% of the cost of a system. And in Colorado, the two major utilities pay out rebates that dramatically decrease the cost of the system.

Some cities and utilities have additional incentives, these solar incentives can dramatically reduce what you’ll have to pay to lease or own your home solar system.

Net metering pays you for excess power.

Most utilities offer “net metering” to solar homeowners. This means that, if your solar system generates more power than your home uses during one billing cycle, you’ll get credit for that excess juice during another billing cycle. For example, if you generate more power than you use in July, you can use the credit toward your December bill. At the end of the year, if you’ve generated more than you’ve used, some utilities will pay you out in cash while others do not. Please check with your utility to learn more about their Net Metering or Solar Bank program.

New California law will pay you even more for excess power.

Beginning in 2011, a new law requires California utilities to pay customers for all excess solar power they generate. The current net metering law in California zeroes out your account at the end of the year—if you’ve generated more power than you’ve used, you can’t roll your credit over the next year. But that will change when the new law takes effect in 2011, meaning you’ll get paid for every extra watt your system produces.
