Every year Australia celebrates Earth Hour by turning off the lights for an hour to spark ideas and take action to protect the planet.
This year’s Earth Hour theme was switching to renewable energy. People who pledged to make the change had the chance to win a free Sungevity solar power system for a local community building.
The city of Victor Harbor won and opted to put the system on the Seniors Center.
“We won this award for our many fine efforts in being regional leaders in the push for energy sustainability,” City Mayor Graham Philip said. “We appreciate Sungevity Australia for installing and making available the solar system and for being part of the Earth Hour competition.”
