Yes He Will! 50,000 “Solar on the White House” Petition Signatures
4/2/2010
Oakland, CA
Sungevity, the company that initiated the “Globama” campaign to put solar on the White House, will reach back out to the Obama administration to see if they will accept the offer and save taxpayers money. Regardless of who puts solar on the first family’s residence, Sungevity is elated that the Obama’s are setting an example demonstrating that solar energy can protect the environment, save homeowners money, and provide jobs.
"This is a great day for the clean energy movement and Sungevity is glad to have ignited further awareness around the idea that we can all make a difference,” said Danny Kennedy, Sungevity founder. “Residential solar power is now accessible and affordable – we imagine a day when every home in America harnesses the power of the sun. Congratulations to the 50,000 people who signed the petition as well as anyone who has already committed to clean energy.”
In partnership with 350.org, Sungevity has offered free residential solar systems not only to the Obamas, but to leaders around the world to demonstrate to their citizens the power of clean energy. The first leader to accept was President Mohamed Nasheed of the Maldives. The Sungevity crew are in the Maldives this week installing a system on the President’s residence, and the President himself will be installing panels with his own two hands this Wednesday, October 6, 2010. About Solar on the White House:
Solar panels were first installed on the White House during the Carter administration and then largely removed during the Reagan administration. It's been nearly 25 years since solar energy has been part of the White House in a meaningful way, and the coalition is urging concerned citizens to sign an online petition. Backed by Sungevity, the petition and campaign is to drive awareness of the ease and affordability now available to homeowners and the dramatic effects it can have on not only slowing global warming, but also saving consumers money on their monthly power bill. Installing a solar panel system is now available with zero money down lease options that save consumers on average 15% from day one. The ordering process can be done online, using satellite imagery to design the system and provide consumers with a firm iQuote.
